Teichmann

Don’t let the name fool you, Leitfaden Schallplatten is the newest Japanese label to enter the scene. Promoting cross-cultural interaction between Japan and the west, the first release on the fresh Tokyo label comes from Bavarian brothers Gebruder Teichmann. Teichmann got their break when their track ‘Dance And More’ was picked up for Kompakt’s “Speicher 25”.

Leitfaden Schallplatten began its life as a party promotion group, recently culminating with infamous parties at Club Maria and Bar25 in Berlin featuring the finest Japanese talent performing amongst the German underground.

“The Number of The BEAT” will be released on Leitfaden Schallplatten on November 24th.

London Picks – November

Not a particularly awe inspiring month for London but still plenty of fun to be had if you haven’t blown all your funds on fireworks for Guy Fawkes.

9TH NOV (FRI) – Bang Face XIIX @ Electrowerkz
If you can brave the new rave vibe then Modeselektor should be worth checking out at this gig in Shoreditch. Despite a pretty shonky video clip effort which is like an unholy matrimony of Groove Armada and Chemical Brothers minus any sort of budget, their new album “Happy Birthday” is all killer.

16TH NOV (FRI) – Milky Disco feat Lindstrom & Prins Thomas @ The Key
If your ears are needing a vacation from banging techno could be a good idea to pop along for a slice of what the kids are calling space disco. Lindstrom will be playing live so will be a good chance to hear some of his choice cuts.

17TH NOV (SAT) – Phonica Records 4th Birthday @ Unit 7
Celebration time for the London stalwart Phonica Records. Jamie Jones, Simon Riggs, Ryan Shaw and Hector all on board to make sure the music is spot on for the night although sadly no Heidi.

24TH NOV (SAT) – K7 Records @ The Key
21st birthday of the influential K7. Swayzak should put on a nice show as no doubt will improv master Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden. Could be worth giving Hot Chip a chance aslong as they promise to play ‘Down With Prince’

Circo Loco

October looks a little slow as the Summer has well and truly come to end, but there are still a few events to pique the interest and make the journey into the cold worthwhile.

5TH OCT (FRI) – Nevertheless @ Corsica Studios
Canadian star Mike Shannon is joined by a handful of quality producers including Arnaud Le Texier (Sushitech), Ion Ludwig (Resopal/Underline), Mark Henning (Trapez/Freude am Tanzen) and James Priestley (Simple).

13TH OCT (SAT) – Circo Loco Ibiza Reunion @ Secret Location
Get together with Cirrilo and Clive Henry to kid yourself that you are off in the Balearics. As long as you keep your eyes close, ignore the fact you are wearing thermal underwear and concentrate on the deep beats you should be perfectly fine.

20TH OCT (SAT) – Fabric Birthday Weekend @ Fabric
Another successful year for the label/club celebrated by flavour of the month Cobblestone Jazz, Ellen Allien, Optimo, Tobi Neumann and of course long time resident Craig Richards.

27TH OCT (SAT) – We Love…Mulletover Halloween Fancy Dress Party @ Secret Shoreditch Location
Fight your way through the Shoreditch fashionistas and you’ll be rewarded with a great lineup put on by the Mulletover crew and the We Love crew. Connassieur Recordings’ Ripperton and Alex Flitsch are joined by Meat from Cocoon and Serge Santiago.

Richie Hawtin

Plenty of promising events in September to keep you occupied even if the weather continues to let you down. A month of experience with Swayzak, Richie Hawtin and the Freaks guiding the way.

1ST SEP (SAT) – Gimmick with Luke Solomon & Justin Harris @ Canvas
Freaks Luke Solomon & Justin Harris should heat things up nicely at Canvas with their many years of house music experience from running Music For Freaks. Recently Justin has been running his own label Paranoid Music while Luke has been releasing on Crosstown Rebels and Cajual.

8TH SEP (SAT) – 10 Years of Swayzak @ Fabric
Swayzak take over room 2 at Fabric to celebrate ten years of records. Hopefully the duo will pull out classics like “Ping Pong”, “State of Grace” and “Another Way”. Also on the roster is Konrad Black from Wagon Repair, Canadian Mike Shannon and recent Fabric mix CD contributor Marco Carola.

29TH SEP (SAT) – Minus @ The End
More Richie, this time with the addition of Marc Houle live as well as another appearance by Troy Pierce. This one is billed as a Minus night so expect Mr. Hawtin to share the limelight rather than taking centre stage for a marathon set.

30TH SEP (SUN) – Secretsundaze @ Canvas Terrace
Poker Flat boss and long time minimal ambassador Steve Bug joins the lineup for the hard partying Secretsundaze crew. The highlight however should be Dial artist Sten aka Lawrence. The Smallville record store/label owner will be lining up all his own productions as part of a sure to be hot live set. A nice sunday daytime event to cap of a busy month.

Magda

Just like every other month in London, August is not looking like a good one for trying to take it easy. If you are still recovering from the Minus party last weekend then it might be best to stay home this weekend to rest up for the month ahead.

2ND AUGUST (THU) – Magda @ T Bar
Magda heads back to London again but this time on her own. The Funktion One sound system will get an absolute workout from Magda’s deep and long building set. Should be worth the hangover at work on Friday morning.

4TH AUGUST (SAT) – Mobilee Records @ Fabric
Anja Schneider and pals Sebo K and Exercise One bring some of that bouncy Mobilee love to Fabric. Should bring a bit of sunshine into the life of all the Londoners cursing this grey and wet summer.

8TH AUGUST (WED) – Kompakt presents Gui Boratto @ Plastic People
Supermayer will be making an appearance next month but for now to tide us over Kompakt are offering up the Brazilian Gui Boratto. Hopefully be able to hear a few tracks from “Chromophobia” as well as a couple of newbies.

11TH AUGUST (SAT) – Field Day
Victoria Park is set to get a bit messy with Field Day rolling in for a day of frivolity. Four Tet and Matthew Dear are definites with the Earlies and Mystery Jets also on hand for some welcome respite from the electronics.

18TH AUGUST (SAT) – Circo Loco @ The End
A slice of Ibiza in London for just one night as Tania Vulkano, Lazy Fat People, Cassy, Hector and Jamies Jones all join forces in the name of the DC10 institution. Unfortunately for Dinky and Sasse who are playing at a “secret warehouse” on the same night, the End’s lineup seems too good to miss.

26TH AUGUST (SUN) – TDK Cross Central : Day 2
Day 1 of the two day festival doesn’t look so crash hot but the Sunday more than makes up for it. Ricardo Villalobos, Jamie Jones, Loco Dice and Dan Bell will all be worth making the trip down to the Cross.

New Chica and the Folder on Monika Enterprise

Chica and the Folder aka Paula Schopf and Max Loderbauer may not be quite as well known as fellow Berlin based German/Chilean Ricky V but their new album “Under the Balcony” should still be one you look out for at your local record store come the 7th of September this year. “Under the Balcony” is full of quirky beats, plops, squonks, melodies and the ocassional vocal from newspaper sellers, young daughters and robots on acid (or at least the vocoder equivalent).

For those not convinced without a few big names thrown into the hoop, the album has been lovingly mixed by Tobias Freund of Sieg Uber die Sonne fame and the aforementioned Ricardo Villalobos will be provided a remix for a 12″ single release that should come out at around the same time as the album on Monika Enterprise.

Tracklisting
01. Huerfanos
02. Perfect Day (Sometimes)
03. All Inclusive
04. Dancing Been
05. Desde el Balcon
06. Angelus Novus
07. Sacrificio
08. Dias Amarillos
09. Souffle
10. Monte Rosa
11. Happy
12. Fest der Grillen

Kitchen Party TV
July 2, 2007, 11:51 am

Kitchenparty.tv

There’s a new website out with a rather intriguing concept. Kitchenparty.tv centres around the idea that, well let’s face it, every house party you go to inevitably ends up with its nexus in the kitchen. So the crew behind this wacky idea have decided to open up their kitchen in their London home to around 30 people, invite round a well-known DJ and then run around filming it all and bunging it onto the world wide web.

Kitchenparty.tv is a brand new concept but already has featured sets from Will Saul’s pal King Roc, Music For Freaks man Johnny Rock and of course the site’s (and kitchen’s) owners Sweet & Vicious DJs have volunteered their services as well.

The first question that is inevitably going to spring to your mind, at least in the eyes of the Kitchenparty.tv team, is what about the harm this concept will have on the environment? Well, fear not. The website subscribes to the theory of carbon neutrality so all DJs must either live in London or already be traveling for another gig, and will be escorted to the venue by public transport or slightly more stylish hybrid electric cab. Plus many more environmentally friendly practices.
